Leon Horner III out of Frisco commits to Texas Tech basketball

While the Texas Tech basketball team continues to build out the bulk of its 2024-25 roster through the transfer portal, the Red Raiders got a commitment from a 2024 class high school player on Sunday morning.

Leon Horner III out of Dynamic Prep in Frisco announced his commitment to the Red Raiders through social media.

The majority of programs to offer scholarships to Horner were mid-majors, including Sam Houston State, Tarleton State and UT-Arlington, among others. He took a visit to Texas Tech in early February.

The 6-foot-6, 195-pound wing is ranked as a three-star recruit by 247Sports.

Horner reclassified to the 2024 recruiting class after playing his high school ball at Frisco Memorial along with former Tech recruit Drew Steffe, who is now at Southern Illinois.

While the Red Raiders will be heavy on upperclassmen this year, Horner and fellow high school recruit Jazz Henderson (who committed out of Faith Family Academy as a preferred walk-on) will add some youth and more bodies to the bench.

Texas Tech has four more scholarship spots to work with throughout the rest of the offseason to form its full 2024-25 roster.
