HCL, Tech Mahindra offer jobs for family members, fund education of kids of employees who succumb to Covid-19

HCL Technologies and on Monday said they will provide job, learning & development, and educational opportunities to immediate family members of employees who have succumbed to Covid.

“The onset of the second wave of COVID -19 has caused irreparable damage to many lives. And in the unfortunate event of the passing away of an employee, this loss is felt by their families,” HCL said in a statement.

Hence, HCL has introduced benefits under its Family Assistance program which includes Compassionate Allowance, Medical Insurance Coverage, Child Education Support, among other benefits in order to provide financial assistance for supporting the dependents of the deceased employee. This will help the family when they most critically need it in order to rebuild their lives and get a better place for their children, it said.

Recently, Tech Mahindra appointed a ‘wellness officer’ to institutionalise holistic wellness of all employees, partners, and vendors amidst the pandemic.

The company said it will provide jobs at Tech Mahindra for family members eligible to be employed based on fulfilment of key criteria, opportunity to upskill through Tech Mahindra Learning Resources & Career Counselling to enable the family to earn sustainable income to support their livelihood and reimbursing education expenses up to standard 12th or equivalent for the employee’s children. It is effective April 1.

“People are at the heart of everything we do, and as a part of our commitment towards helping the Tech Mahindra family and the society at large ride over these difficult times, we are rolling the ‘Covid Support Policy’ to ensure a sustainable income and livelihood for families of our associates who succumb or have succumbed to Covid,” said Harshvendra Soin, global chief people officer and head–marketing at Tech Mahindra.

These benefits will be in addition to the support the company already gives through life insurance, medical insurance and other statutory benefits in line with policies and local laws across the globe.

HCL will also offer employment opportunities to the unemployed spouse or dependent children above the age of 18 years basis their qualifications, open position availability and trainability. Additionally, HCL will reimburse the tuition fees for upto 2 children of the deceased employee for next 5 years.

Both firms have also collaborated with leading hospitals to convert some of its campuses into Covid care units and has launched an exclusive Covid-19 vaccination drive for its employees and their dependent family members across India.
