Google has joined hands with Pakistan’s Ministry of Federal Education to open its Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered schools in Islamabad. The aim of these study centers is to promote an equitable workforce by empowering women in the neighbouring country. To do so, the tech giant decided to allot 50 per cent scholarships to females.
Already the company for long has been promoting several initiatives such as teacher workshops, youth training through Google Career Certificates, and the creation of a public Google Reference School. Experts see this as a major boost for Pakistan’s lagging educational sector as the Google for Education team is collaborating with Tech Valley, a local partner for the project. The company’s representatives, as per the local media reports, recently met with the Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training to discuss upcoming projects.
30,000 Google for Education IDs are going to be included in these 50 smart schools togetherly planned to promote AI-powered features practice sets, including some digital tools to catalyse productivity in the country, according to the state news agency.
The US tech giant reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women on International Women’s Day in March, stating that providing women with the tools and resources they need may pave the way for a future characterized by greater equality, inclusiveness, and prosperity.
Google wants to fill the existing gaps within the technical education and expertise areas through its Google Career Certificates program(s). Notably, one such program began in Pakistan in 2022. With this, the company is allowing at least 50 per cent scholarships exclusively to women. The company based out of California even granted 44,500 scholarships in 2023. It plans to give more this year. Anyone with the basic criteria match would be able to apply and attend these highly efficient schools especially people from weaker sections of the society.
