PAPAR: The 10Star Cinema Parklane City in Benoni, here, which opened on May 1 is the first such high-tech 24-hour facility which uses a laser projector which even big cinemas are only now adopting.
“That’s why when we show these films, they must have a digital cinema register and meet film standards.
“The technology is the most advanced. The equipment is from Belgium, and India the surround system that promises satisfaction and a real movie experience,” said 10Star Cinema Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Onn Norshal Hamzah.

Onn said the needs of society have changed, at the same time differentiating it from cinemas in shopping malls.
“In the planning to make the first 24-hour cinema in Malaysia we had to ensure that the cinema environment is also equipped with other infrastructure support.
“When those needed development is completed, we launch it as a cinema that offers 24-hour shows. It is no like a cinema in a shopping mall.”
He said using laser projectors has made the community cinema, which has its own building, to be on spar with other cinemas in Sabah when using the most advanced technology system to date.
The operating hours are from 10am till midnight. “But if it’s a good movie, it can be a double midnight like we do in Tawau, the last show can be until 3am and 2.30am depending on the strength of the film.
“During the festive and school holiday season, it can be a double midnight or what we call as ‘24 hours’,” he said.
He said the 10Star Cinema company also strongly supports production and marketing of local films in Sabah and allows them to be screened here
Papar, which is described as a Satellite City, will be a stopover for people from the south to the west and Onn is confident there would be demand for 24-hour broadcasts.
The 10Star Cinema was opened by the Sabah Governor Tun Juhar Mahiruddin at Parklane City, Benoni, on May 1.
