The head of Microsoft Teams’ rival Zoom has called on the United States Federal Trade Commission to renew its investigation into Microsoft for potential antitrust violations to do with its bundling of Office 365 and Teams.
At Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference on Tuesday, Zoom CEO Eric Yuan was asked a question about Microsoft’s announcement last week that it would decouple Teams and Office 365 in European countries to counter an EU probe into possible competition rule violations.
Yuan responded by saying “You should ask this question to the FTC as well,” according to Bloomberg.
“No matter what, you’ve got to be fair,” Yuan said.
Yuan’s comments come amid the European Commission’s ongoing investigation, which started in July. At the time, a Microsoft spokesperson said the company “take our own responsibilities very seriously and would “continue to cooperate with the Commission and remain committed to finding solutions that will address its concerns.”
Last week, Microsoft announced it would unbundle Teams from Office 365 from Oct. 1, but this applies only in the European Economic Area and Switzerland.
A spokesperson for Microsoft did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
