Texas Tech Health Sciences Center hosts ‘Autism Education Conference’

ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center teamed up with several organizations to host the Autism Education Conference on Friday.

The event aimed to bring insights, strategies, resources, and best practices for health care professionals to approach Autism Spectrum Disorder.

“We are celebrating Autism Awareness Month in April, so we thought it was a good time to gather to learn from teachers, therapists, physicians, different researchers, and educators in the community. The first purpose is to raise awareness, it really I think helps to bring us together as a community. There’s a lot of unknowns in the day to day and into the future, just like some of those questions that are still unanswered or still linger, I hope that this event is one of many or a small part in the bigger and broader efforts within our community here in the Permian Basin to, not only just answer questions together, but do life together as well,” said Martin Ortega with the Texas Tech Family Community Medicine Department.

Local organizations were on hand answering any questions that parents may have. You can learn more on the Texas Tech University Health Sciences website here or the Share West Texas website here.
