Silicon Valley Software Firm Reaches Development Agreement With Audi

Applied Intuition Inc., a Mountain View, Calif.-based vehicle software supplier, said Tuesday it reached an agreement with Audi AG to jointly develop automated driving, or AD, systems for Audi vehicles.

The companies said in a statement their partnership will extend Applied’s simulation and data management solutions with specialized applications co-developed by Applied and Audi. Audi is part of Volkswagen AG.

“The expertise of both Applied Intuition and Audi creates a mutual benefit to deliver high-quality automated functions across the globe, no matter which AD stack we are bringing to our customers,” Gero Kempf, executive vice president for Audi, said in a statement.

“Applied Intuition’s solution allows us to highly automate our scenario-based, data-driven engineering workflows and adapt jointly developed applications,” he added.

“Applied Intuition and Audi’s joint solution is critical to ensuring AD software safety,” Qasar Younis, co-founder and CEO of Applied Intuition, said in the same statement. “With unified applications, a data-driven approach, automated testing, and cloud-based collaboration, our unified framework allows Audi to validate, certify, and bring next-generation AD systems to market faster.”

Automakers are seeking to develop self-driving vehicles. A Forbes Advisor article in February indicated that 93% of Americans have concerns about some aspects of self-driving vehicles. There have been problems in the rollout of robotaxis in San Francisco.

Applied and Audi said their relationship “will set a new benchmark for the safe validation and deployment of AD functions.”

Porsche AG said in March it agreed to form a partnership with Applied to jointly develop vehicle software. The luxury automaker said the relationship would help Porsche “utilize expertise to develop, deploy, and update vehicle software to provide unique consumer experiences.”

Applied was founded in 2017. The company has customers in the automotive, trucking, construction, mining, agriculture, and defense sectors.
