Raytheon Tech retrofitting Collins Aerospace oxygen trucks to aid Covid-19 relief efforts in India

NEW DELHI: Defence and aerospace major Raytheon Technologies is modifying OxyTruck mobile oxygen filling stations — used by defence forces to fill aircraft oxygen systems — for civil use.
The Indian Air Force will bring these modified trucks from Germany next week. They will be delivered to Indian Red Cross Society in Delhi to connect with hospital oxygen supply lines and help fill portable oxygen cylinders, Raytheon said in a statement.
Produced by Raytheon’s group company Collins Aerospace in Lübeck, Germany, each of these trucks can transport about 2.7 lakh litres of much-needed oxygen.
“We have employees, customers and suppliers throughout India who need assistance, and this is just one immediate way we can help make a meaningful difference in this crisis,” said Troy Brunk, president of interiors for Collins Aerospace.
Raytheon Technologies has given 12 lakh pieces of personal protective equipment, funding for 1,000 oxygen concentrators, and are making financial contributions to local relief organisations. The company is also matching employee donations to numerous nonprofits supporting Covid-19 relief efforts in India, it says.
“Normally used by military forces to fill aircraft oxygen systems, the trucks are being modified for civil use and transported to India by the Indian Air Force,” the company said in a statement.
Raytheon has four major business arms — Collins Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney, Raytheon Intelligence & Space and Raytheon Missiles & Defense.
