In a vibrant ceremony at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, Dharmendra Pradhan, India’s Minister of Education and Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, inaugurated the much-anticipated New Delhi World Book Fair 2024. The event, commencing on February 12th, spotlights the transformative power of books and the burgeoning influence of e-learning in India’s educational landscape.
The Intersection of Tradition and Technology
Pradhan, in his address, underscored the importance of books as intellectual property, emphasizing their role in shaping young minds and fostering critical thinking. He acknowledged the increasing prominence of e-learning and e-reading, signaling a shift in India’s approach to education.
In line with this vision, the event marked the launch of the National Digital Libraries for All initiative. This ambitious project aims to democratize access to knowledge across India’s rich and diverse linguistic landscape, ensuring that learning opportunities are available to all, irrespective of geographical or socio-economic barriers.
A New Chapter in Early Childhood Education
One of the fair’s highlights was the unveiling of the E ‘Jaadui Pitara’ e-learning platform. Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, this innovative platform offers puzzles, riddles, and stories in 22 languages, harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to revolutionize early childhood education.
The platform is a testament to India’s commitment to preserving its linguistic diversity while embracing technological advancements. It reflects the spirit of the Three-Language Formula, which encourages the learning of regional languages, Hindi or another modern Indian language, and English.
Celebrating Linguistic Diversity
The New Delhi World Book Fair 2024 is a celebration of India’s linguistic diversity, with special modules teaching-learning resources and subject-specific modules aligned with NEP 2020. The fair also features resources promoting G20 initiatives, Viksit Bharat, and Nari Shakti Vandan.
In keeping with the theme ‘Multilingual India: A Living Tradition,’ the fair hosts the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as the Guest Country. This collaboration underscores India’s commitment to fostering global cultural exchange and promoting mutual understanding through literature.
