On this morning’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, co-hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos took a moment to send their “well wishes” to Kate Middleton, who released a video on Friday (March 22) to break the news of her cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Ripa also took a moment to call out those who speculated about the Princess of Wales’ whereabouts and the intrusive social media frenzy that ensued in her absence.
“And I hope that maybe it makes internet sleuths and conspiracy theorists, and all of the people on social media who were so gross, just gross, invading —,” she said. “I don’t care who you are or what you do, I believe all people have a right to medical ‘prih-vacy,’ as they would say in the U.K.”
Consuelos agreed, “I do, too.”
Ripa continued, noting that she “hope[s] that people really actually analyze their own behavior during this announcement.”
“And I think people were starting to feel bad, but then they started conspiracy theorizing about her statement,” she added.
Consuelos, on the other hand, said he “always knew there was a good reason” for Middleton’s absence.
“I was like, there’s a good reason, and it’s none of my business,” he noted.
Ripa echoed, “Right,” as Consuelos reiterated, “Well, we wish you well,” then corrected himself, “we wish her well.”
Following a round of applause from the audience, Ripa teased, “I like that Mark said, ‘We wish you well,’ as if she’s watching the show.”
Consuelos quipped, “Cheerio,” before adding, “she could be watching.”
Ripa joked, “It’s the imagination of Mark.”
