FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – It’s not how you start, but how you finish.
That cliché is very appropriate for how Indiana Tech baseball’s season is unfolding. The Warriors stumbled to a 2-16 start before locking up a WHAC tournament title and an automatic bid to the NAIA Tournament.
Indiana Tech is rolling with 30 wins in their last 36 games. That includes five consecutive victories to lock up their conference tournament championship.
The Warriors also feature plenty of local talent, with 15 players hailing from northeast Indiana. South Adams High School grad Grant Besser was named the WHAC Pitcher of the Year and Newcomer of the Year after earning an ERA of 3.40 with a team-high 102 strikeouts.
At the plate, Homestead grad Eli MacDonald was named to the all-WHAC first team after driving in a team-high 68 RBI with 13 extra base hits and nine home runs. Adams Central grad Parker Bates is second on the team with 40 RBI, tallying 13 extra base hits and seven home runs.
Indiana Tech faces IU Southeast in their NAIA Tournament opener at Taylor University on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
