As digital health technologies continue to evolve, healthcare professionals (HCPs) are increasingly recognizing the role of virtual care in empowering patients. Against this backdrop, a significant majority of HCPs believe trends like telemedicine and remote care have given patients more control over their health management, underscoring the growing importance of virtual care in modern healthcare, reveals a poll by GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.
According to the poll, which is published in GlobalData’s report Next Frontier of Healthtech Innovation, 56% respondents agree that the rise of trends like telemedicine and remote care has enhanced patient control over their health management. Additionally, 26% are neutral on the matter, while 13% strongly agree with the statement. Only a small percentage of respondents expressed disagreement, with 3% disagreeing and 2% strongly disagreeing.

Shiva Narayana, Associate Project Manager, Pharma at GlobalData, comments: “These results indicate that HCPs recognize the potential of virtual care, such as telemedicine and remote monitoring, in shifting power to patients. As patients gain more access to their health data and care services from home, they are better positioned to make informed decisions about their health management. This transformation is a critical aspect of the future of healthcare, as patients increasingly expect more flexibility and control in how they manage their health.”
The growing adoption of virtual care models has been instrumental in driving patient empowerment, providing individuals with greater autonomy and improving access to healthcare services, especially in underserved areas. By utilizing digital platforms, patients can monitor their conditions, consult with healthcare providers remotely, and make more proactive choices regarding their treatment plans.
Narayana concludes: “As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve with virtual care technologies, it is essential to focus on how these innovations can be harnessed to provide more personalized care. The future of healthcare lies in further integrating digital tools that enhance patient autonomy while ensuring that providers remain central to guiding care decisions.”
