Google Pixel 8a price leak suggests phone might cost under Rs 50,000, all we know

Google is reportedly preparing to launch its newest smartphone, the Pixel 8A, at its annual Google I/O developer conference this year. The event will be held on May 14th and several announcements are in store. As excitement builds and the event date approaches, leaks have started to surface about the Pixel 8a. Earlier, it was reported that the Pixel 8a could be available in four colours: black, ceramic, blue, and a striking new green variant. Now, fresh leaks have hinted at the device’s price in India. And as per these leaks, the phone could be priced under Rs 50,000.

A report from PassionateGeekz reveals that a Canadian retailer has prematurely listed the Pixel 8a for sale before its official release. According to the retailer’s listings, the Pixel 8a will come in two storage options: 128GB and 256GB. The pricing for the base 128GB model is set at CAD 708.99, which roughly converts to Rs. 42,500, while the 256GB variant is priced at CAD 792.99, approximately Rs. 47,500.

Earlier, tipster Yogesh Brar had said that the phone could be priced between USD 500 and USD 550, translating to approximately Rs 41,648 to Rs 45,813 in India. This pricing strategy follows closely with last year’s launch of the Pixel 7A, which was introduced at Rs 43,999.

However, it is to be noted that these aren’t official prices and there could be changes when the phone finally launches in India. Hence, it is wise to wait for the official price to be unveiled before believing the rumours.

Coming to other rumours about the device, the design of the Pixel 8a is expected to remain largely similar to its predecessor, the Pixel 7a. However, the phone is expected to come in an all-new vibrant green colour option. Previous leaks also hinted at a design with a more pronounced chin at the bottom of the display and softer, more rounded corners. Techdrioder, a YouTube channel, provided a sneak peek by posting images and details of the Pixel 8a, showing a black model with notably thicker bezels, particularly at the bottom. This black version is expected to be named Obsidian.

In terms of hardware, the Pixel 8a is rumoured to feature a 6.1-inch display, upgrading to a 120Hz OLED panel from the previous model’s 90Hz. It’s expected to be equipped with a dual-camera system on the rear, consisting of a 64-megapixel primary sensor and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens. The device is also expected to include the Tensor G3 processor, coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage in the standard model, with speculations about a new 256GB storage option marking a first for the A-series.
