Google is expected to launch the new Pixel 8a smartphone at its upcoming Google I/O 2024 developer conference on May 14. The prices and specifications of the smartphone were already leaked, and now its marketing materials have made their way to the public, confirming key features of the smartphone and a lot more.

Android Headlines shared the marketing materials for Pixel 8a, which claim the mid-range smartphone to come with the same lifespan as the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Additionally, the upcoming phone could not only feature the same chipset as its more expensive siblings but also offer many of the same AI features. Let’s get into the details.

Google Pixel 8a: Life cycle, AI features, key specifications

Google Pixel 8 series was launched with an unprecedented promise of 7 years of Android OS and security updates. The new leak suggests Pixel 8a will get 7 years of updates as well. However, the material only says “7 years of security updates” and doesn’t mention Android OS upgrades. This means Pixel 8a could miss out on OS upgrades while getting security updates.

The leaked marketing materials also mention the presence of several AI features on the upcoming Pixel 8a, including:

  • Best Take that combines similar photos into one to create a picture where everyone looks their best
  • Audio Magic Eraser that reduces distracting sounds in videos like cars or wind
  • Night Sight that creates vibrant photos in low light
  • Call Assist to screen calls for spam
  • AI-powered summaries in emails
  • Circle to Search that lets you find information on anything without switching apps

In addition to these AI features, the marketing materials also confirm the presence of the Google Tensor G3 chipset on the Pixel 8a and support for 18W fast charging. The phone will also get an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance as well as VPN by Google One.
