Apple launches AirTag: India price, availability and more

Apple, at its first event of 2021, has announced the widely speculated AirTag, an accessory that comes in handy to keep track and find items using Apple’s Find My app.
The AirTag can be attached to a handbag, keys, backpack, or other items said the company in a press statement.
Each AirTag is small and lightweight and comes in a round design with a removable cover that can be easily removed. Customers can personalise AirTag with free engraving, including text and a selection of 31 emoji, when purchasing.
The AirTag houses a built-in speaker that plays a sound to help users find its location. It is also IP67 rated making it both water- and dust-resistant.
For these AirTags, Apple has also added a wide range of Apple-designed accessories, including the Polyurethane Loop, and the Leather Loop and Leather Key Ring and more.
Apple says that just like the AirPods, AirTag can be connected to an iPhone by bringing it close to the iPhone to automatically connect it. After doing this, users will be able to assign a custom name — such as “Keys” or “Jacket” — to different AirTags.
Apple AirTag price and availability in India
Apple has priced AirTag at Rs 3,190. For those who may be interested in buying multiple AirTags, the company is offering a pack of 4 at Rs 10,900. Interested buyers will be able to buy AirTag from apple.com and through Apple Authorised Resellers beginning, April 30.
How Apple AirTag works?
Once it is set up the AirTag will appear in the new Items tab in the Find My app, where users can view the item’s current or last known location on a map. In case a user misplaces their item and it is within Bluetooth range, they can use the Find My app to play a sound from the AirTag to help locate it. Users can also ask Siri to find their item, and AirTag will play a sound if it is nearby.
Apple says that AirTag is equipped with a U1 chip using Ultra Wideband technology that allows iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 series users to find precise locations. “This advanced technology can more accurately determine the distance and direction to a lost AirTag when it is in range. As a user moves, Precision Finding fuses input from the camera, ARKit, accelerometer, and gyroscope, and then will guide them to AirTag using a combination of sound, haptics, and visual feedback,” explained the company.
In case a user loses his/her AirTag, it can also be placed into Lost Mode and be notified when it is in range or has been located by the vast Find My network. If a lost AirTag is found by someone, they can tap it using their iPhone or any NFC-capable device and be taken to a website that will display a contact phone number for the owner, if they have provided one.
