TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Washburn Tech will welcome is newest recruiting class at its 2024 National Technical Letter of Intent Signing Day.
Washburn Institute of Technology (Washburn Tech) officials said they will meet the new recruiting class at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 18 for the letter of intent signing day. Similar to when an athlete signs with a team, incoming students will sign a letter of intent to attend Washburn Tech in the fall 2024 semester.
The event is sponsored by the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3), which mirrors the NCAA’s National Signing Day. It is designed to honor students who are entering a technical field and to celebrate the dignity of work.
Washburn Tech officials said more than 70 technical institutions across the country will be hosting signing day ceremonies tied together by live, nationwide simulcasts. Washburn Tech hosted the first signing day 11 years ago.
“National Signing Day, which began right here at Washburn Tech, is a big day for students as it recognizes the importance of technical education and how it changes people’s lives every day,” said Scott Smathers, dean, Washburn Tech. “It is a wonderful experience to watch students, along with their friends and family, celebrate their decision to go into a good paying career that will help meet the skilled workforce needs of communities throughout the state and nation.”
In addition to student signings, the event will include addresses from Washburn leadership and Rep. Kirk Haskins, D-Topeka, as well as congratulatory messages from area business and industry leaders. A live stream of the event can be watched on Washburn Tech’s YouTube channel.
Washburn Tech noted they offer more than 30 career programs in one of the following divisions: Construction, Design and Technology, Health Occupations, Hospitality and Human Services, Manufacturing and Transportation. Serving both high school and adult students, Washburn Tech is recognized as a leader in career and technical education.
