Josue Cueto had seven strikeouts and five walks with one run on no hits in six innings while Joe Papienuk went one inning with a strikeout and a hit as sixth-seeded Passaic Tech knocked off 11th-seeded Kearny 8-1 in the first round of the North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 Tournament in Wayne.
Passaic Tech will next face off against either third-seeded Livingston or 14th-seeded Columbia in the quarterfinal on Wednesday.
Riquelby Madera drove in three runs and had a double while Christian Herrera finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and a double for Passaic Tech (14-13). Aaron Espinal was 2-for-4 with two doubles.
Julian Butler hit a single for Kearny (15-9).
