BYD Seal Crosses 1,000 Bookings Within 3 Months of India Launch

Within three months since its price announcement, the BYD Seal sedan has bagged over 1,000 bookings in India. Launched on March 5, the Seal is Chinese EV (electric vehicle) maker BYD’s third offering in the country after the Atto 3 SUV and the e6MPV. The first 500 reservations were made within two weeks, while the sedan clocked the last 500 bookings over the past two months. Ranging from Rs 41 lakh to Rs 53 lakh (ex-showroom), the Seal is the most expensive EV from BYD to go on sale here.

The Seal sedan made for India is available in three variants – Dynamic, Premium, and Performance – as well as comes in four exterior colour shades: Arctic Blue, Atlantis Grey, Aurora White, and Cosmos Black. It measures 4,800mm long, 1,875mm wide, and 1,460mm high. The drag coefficient is less than 0.21.

BYD Seal: Battery, Motor, Range

The Seal sits on BYD’s e-platform 3.0, which also underpins the Atto 3 and the Dolphin; however, it uses an 800V electrical architecture. The batteries, which are available in two sizes, get BYD’s patented blade technology. The smaller 61.44kWh battery pack comes mated to a rear-axle-mounted electric motor, which makes 201bhp and 310Nm of torque, while the battery offers a claimed range of 510km.

On the other hand, the larger 82.56kWh battery pack claims a maximum range of 650km in the variants equipped with a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (308bhp). The 523bhp producing dual-motor and all-wheel-drive variants offer a claimed range of 580km range.

BYD Seal: Features

Features-wise, the BYD Seal offers a 15.6-inch rotatable touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a heads-up display, and leather upholstery.

Electronic aids include automatic climate control, two wireless charging pads, a drive selector, an 8-way electronically adjustable driver’s seat, and basic controls for the heated windshield. When it comes to the safety of the occupants, the EV gets 10 airbags, a 360-degree camera, and ADAS tech, among other features.

BYD Seal: Design

The EV adopts the brand’s ‘Ocean Aesthetics’ design philosophy and has a design inspired by the Ocean X concept unveiled in 2021. It has a coupe-like roofline, split headlamps with boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights, a full-width LED light bar at the rear, flush door handles, and 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.
