On Thursday, January 4, the Internet giant rolled out tracking protection for 1 percent of Chrome users as part of the aforementioned initiatives to protect user privacywhose goal is to eliminate all third-party cookies by the beginning of the second half of 2024.
The action, which, at least initially, covered a total of about 30 million users, is part of Google’s Privacy Sandbox project. By the way, Google Chrome has almost half of the global market share compared to other Internet browsers.
When they start Chrome on their computers, affected users will be notified that they are among the first to receive Tracking Protection, a feature that restricts websites from using external cookies to track their online activities.

However, in order not to crash some sites for which users have previously defined their settings or those that are still adapting to this change,Google has left the option for selected usersto temporarily allow external cookies.
After this “trial” action, Google will continue to provide users with Tracking Protection in the coming months, until this type of protection from external cookies is disabled for all Chrome users, which is expected by mid-2024.
The removal of third-party cookies, by the way, is a move that the competition has already taken before: Apple on Safari in 2020 andMozilla on its Firefox browser in 2019.
