Researchers have highlighted the rising popularity of an information-stealing malware called ‘Mystic Stealer’ which targets web browsers, browser extensions, cryptocurrency applications, MFA and password management apps, Steam and Telegram credentials, and more.
Reports from researchers showcase the malware’s active development and promotion on hacking forums and a dedicated Telegram channel. Mystic Stealer is rented for USD 150/month and is known for its effectiveness as an info-stealer. Technical details reveal its compatibility with various Windows versions, minimal footprint on infected systems, and anti-virtualization checks. Stolen data is sent directly to the command-and-control server, bypassing storage on the disk.
A more recent feature, added on May 2023, included a loader capability, which will allow attackers to deploy additional payloads like ransomware, thus further increasing the potential damage from attacks leveraging Mystic Stealer.
