Pre-Matric Scholarship for SC/ST/OBC Students

Pre-Matric Scholarship Schemes for SC/ST covers only students studying in classes IX and X. Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme for OBC covers only students studying in classes IX and X w.e.f. 2022-23. The pre revised scheme was covering classes I to X. The scheme is implemented through the respective State Governments and UTs . The year wise amount of funds spent in Pre-Matric Scholarship for OBC students enrolled from Class I to Class X is given in Annexure-I.

Under Component-II of Pre-Matric Scholarships Scheme for SCs and Others, scholarship is admissible to the children/wards of parents/guardians who irrespective of their caste/religion belong to the following categories-

1. Persons who are Manual Scavengers as defined under section 2(I) (g) of Manual Scavengers Act, 2013
2. Tanners & Flayers
3. Waste pickers and
4. Persons engaged in hazardous cleaning under Section 2(I) (d) of Manual Scavengers Act, 2013.

Hostelers are benefited from the scheme.

None of the above scheme has been discontinued. However, Pre-Matric Scholarship for OBC and Others has been revised and now it covers the students studying in Class IX and X only.

This information was given by The Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Sushri Pratima Bhoumik in the Rajya Sabha in a written reply today.
