Why is India’s second Covid wave bigger than the first?

When a tsunami strikes, the first wave is generally not the most severe. That wave recedes, and then the second or third or even fourth wave is the one that is largest with maximum force. Covid seems to be hitting us like a tsunami; the first and most feared wave now seems to pale in comparison with the second wave of cases. With a tsunami, there are geographical forces at play. What is driving the second wave of Covid-19? And will there be worse to follow?
